Priority Youth Housing’s Mission is:
“To improve the housing and support services for vulnerable young people in the Bristol and South Gloucestershire area and to raise awareness of their needs”
Priority was established in 1989, as a response to the increasing number of young people who were homeless in South Bristol. Since the late 1980s the organisation has grown significantly and is now able to assist young people aged 16 to 25 in both Bristol and South Gloucestershire.
We provide accommodation and support in shared housing and self-contained flats located in different areas whilst also supporting homeless young people in finding and maintaining housing in the council, housing association, and private sector.
Our support services have developed in response to the needs of young homeless people. Many of the young people we meet have not had positive experiences of the education system and most are unemployed or in jobs that are poorly paid with few prospects. They often lack the confidence or the knowledge needed to take up opportunities that would increase their skills and enable them to reach their full. In response to this we have developed information, advice and guidance services to assist young homeless people to access training, education and employment opportunities.
