The Mark Davies Injured Riders Fund (MDIRF) was established in 1988 by the parents of Mark Davies, who died as a result of a fatal fall at Burghley Horse Trials. The MDIRF is now a national charity, which aims through financial or any other means, to assist those who have sustained an injury in an equestrian related accident where other relief is inadequate or unobtainable.
WHAT DO WE DO?
The MDIRF provides victims with expert medical, legal and financial advice. In practical terms, the fund has provided wheelchairs, special beds, house adaptions, stair lifts, travel expenses for relatives to visit, and financial assistance to help individuals over their immediate problems.
The MDIRF has also taken a leading role in issues relating to the welfare and safety of riders, and is playing a major part in debates on such issues as head protection and fixed fences, as well as helping to lead the way in research.
