FOC was founded in 1982 to help prevent wildlife and habitat degradation in the Masai Mara - one of the most ecologically important regions of the world. Over the last 20 years we have become an organisation with a reputation as one of East Africa's leading conservation bodies and work alongside some of the most progressive minds in this arena.

At the beginning of the 1990s we began to expand our focus to encompass not only the wildlife, but also the local communities whose natural heritage is inextricably entwined with the environment we are working in.

Friends of Conservation is committed to working with local peoples to develop and promote a balance between their needs and those of the wildlife with which they share their natural habitat and ecosystems.
