77% of Afghans do not have access to safe drinking water, 88% don't have adequate sanitation. 1 in 4 children die before the age of 5 and 17,000 women die in childbirth each year. Afghanistan ranks 169 out of 174 countries with regards to social development

Over the last 20 years, Afghanaid has worked in every province of Afghanistan, giving us a unique understanding of the challenges faced by the people of Afghanistan. We work in partnership with Afghan communities to improve their quality of life and secure basic needs in the future.

Sky Divers bring food and water!

Against that background Afghanaid helps communities by:

• improving food production, water supplies and sanitation

• training basic veterinary workers so their livestock are healthy

• providing basic health education so that mothers and their children are healthy

• training traditional birth attendants so that we can overcome the high death rate amongst mothers and children

• running women's resource centres to provide literacy, numeracy and vocational training

• building roads, so villagers can have safe access to markets, and building irrigation systems, to support farming
