A Taster Perhaps? If you would like to take up Skydiving as a sport then an Accelerated Freefall (AFF) course could be for you. Or, as an introduction to the sport, you could try AFF level 1 only with the option to continue. We can arrange the level 1 in the UK almost as a “try before you buy” jump. If, once you've completed the level 1, you decide that you'd like to continue with the course then there's no problem advancing to level 2 and so on. The Whole Course AFF is broken down into levels. Although you can complete the course in 8 levels, if for any reason you do not complete the objectives of any particular level then the level would have to be repeated. In this case the re-jump does have to be paid for by the student. Level 1 entails thorough and detailed instruction (Ground School) teaching you how to position your body in order to be stable in freefall and also to perform various manoeuvres in the air. Level 1 culminates with a jump from a height of up to 13,500 feet accompanied by two instructors to provide in-air coaching and stability during the freefall element of the jump, after which you will control and steer your own parachute to the landing area. For levels 2 and 3 you will still have two AFF instructors with you. The aim of these early levels is to get you used to being in freefall, prove that you can read an altimeter, respond to signals given to you by the instructor, adopt a body position and deploy your own parachute. Under canopy you’ll control and land the parachute yourself assisted, if required, by your instructor via two-way radios. Levels 4 and 5 introduce you to starting and stopping turns in freefall. This is taught so that you can face in any direction in the sky, move to another position and control where you are. On level 6 we will introduce instability so that you will learn confidently that you can recover into a good body position if you were to become unstable in the air. You’ll find this one of the most enjoyable levels! Level 7 is a consolidation of what you will have learnt so far, bringing it all together to complete a little of each of the previous levels into one skydive. This is pretty much your last “learning” skydive of the course after which you’ll be able to go to 13,000 feet, on your own and jump!!
